Chronology
- 12th century
The origin of the Pazo de Rubianes can be found in a 12th century fortified tower, belonging to the Caamaño family.
- 15th century
At the beginning of the 15th century, Mr. García Caamaño built his residence in the Rubianes estate, years later he founded the Villa de García, today known as Vilagarcía de Arousa. In 1598, the chapel dedicated to San José (Saint Joseph) was built by Mr. Josepe Caamaño y Mendoza, Lord of the House of Rubianes, where we can contemplate a singular altarpiece from the XVI century and several images from this period.
- 18th century
In the 18th century, the lord of the house of Rubianes, Mr. Jacobo Ozores, was exiled to France by King Carlos IV. On his return, he found the property in a very degraded state and decided to rebuild it, for which he enlisted the services of a French architect who would give the current French look to the Pazo that we know today, which think more of a French castle than of a Galician Pazo.
- 21th century
The Pazo de Rubianes estate, with an area of around 70 hectares, is today a point of reference in the world of camellia and Rías Baixas wine. Located in the region of Salnés, in the Ría de Arousa, the property has carried out over the last decades important works of recovery of the constructions, the historic garden as well as the planting and the start of the wine exploitation.
