Chronology
- 1918
Raül de Roviralta bought seven vineyards in Lloret de Mar from the Messrs. Macià, Blanch, Cruz, Zaragoza, Calapuig, Bonanit and Carles. He commissioned the project of the gardens from the architect Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí.
- 1918-1921
The movements of earth that gave the definitive form to the terrain were carried out.
- 1921
The planting of pines and cypresses began.
- 1922
Dr. Roviralta bought the first statue in the section of the Century of Antiquities: Sculpture with horn, No. 17.
- 1926
Rubió i Tudurí’s project was completed. The entrance arch was built in June. During a journey to Italy and Germany, accompanied by Domènec Carles, Dr. Roviralta bought two busts (Minerva with a war helmet and Roman with a lion skin on his chest) from an antiquarian in Dresden.
- 1927
Panting continued.
- 1928
Marriage of Dr. Roviralta and Odila Arenys.
- 1928
In May, Domènec Carles bought in Paris, commissioned by Dr. Roviralta, four busts and a freestanding statue (a child). The construction of the small house began in July, following Rubió’s plan, modified and adapted to the landscape by Domènec Carles.
- 1929
In November, Domènec Carles bought two statues in Paris (Justice and Prudence). Building work on the big house began.
- 1930
In March, ten Roman busts were purchased from the widow of Fournier (Torre Fournier, in Bonanova de Barcelona).
- 1934
The big house was finished without the supervision of any architect and solely with the management of Domènec Carles.
- 1939
Roviralta and his partner Ferran Rubió i Tudurí divided the business of the pharmaceutical laboratories after the Spanish Civil War, because of political differences.
- 1958
The reorganisation of the gardens began by planting new trees to replace the predator eucalyptus.
- 1972
The government of Spain designate Santa Clotilde Gardens as a Picturesque Landscape.
- 1994
The government of Catalonia (Generalitat) designate Santa Clotilde Gardens as a Cultural Property of National Interest.
- 1997
Santa Clotilde Gardens are transferred to the municipality of Lloret de Mar.
