Garden heritage in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic: Survey
The garden heritage has entered an entirely new era: An era where dynamic social, economic and environmental changes redefine historic gardens conservation and restoration doctrines.

The recent months brought another global factor that affected not only the economic stability of many countries and people, but also endangered the green legacy.
The pandemic urged us to reconsider many aspects of life, including the place of the man in the ecosystem and our role and responsibility for nature. The reflection is followed by questions of how to manage garden heritage that needs constant care in the context of the limited human and financial resources.
Each historic garden resembles a laboratory of a subjective management decisions made by its administrators during the global crisis – decisions driven by the urge to ensure the safety of conservation personnel and structural components of gardens.
We, ERHG and University of Technology in Cracow, believe that groups of common and individual management decisions can be identified by collecting experiences of each garden as a case study and that some of them be adapted in the future by other gardens and institutions. The COVID-19 pandemic is a new factor in the modern world. It often entails administrative confusion, also in heritage conservation. This is why I would like to invite you to complete the below questionnaire.
It will allow us to build a catalogue of universal actions that should be taken for the sake of the garden heritage in the circumstances similar to the current situation.
Recommendations before starting the survey
Apart from the general questions such as the location or area of the garden, the questionnaire looks into the number of gardeners that work daily in the garden or into the tourist frequency described in a specific periods. It is advisable to read the enclosed questionnaire (PDF) before starting the online survey so that you can prepare all the required informations.
Please, note that the completion process cannot be paused or interrupted while filling the document. Once you complete the survey, you will receive a confirmation that your responses were sent to our administrator.
We would appreciate it if you could complete the online survey by 30th June 2020.
Thank you very much!
