Historical background
The very first palace garden in Kamieniec was created around 1780 during the construction of the baroque country estate. Its axial and simple layout included the vegetable quarters and basic ornamental parterres as well. This walled garden had a little decorative pavilion (Lusthaus) that was a part of the southern border wall. The entire garden was laid higher that the groundfloor of the palace so that the decorative parterres were perfectly visible from the grand windows of the palace’s piano nobile.
Prussian picturesque parks
The garden has been firstly transformed in the middle of the 1800’s. The grand rearrangement in the spirit of the Prussian picturesque parks took place in 1881-1883 and was initiated by the von Seherr-Thoss Family. The garden was divided at that time into two main interiors. The central one located directly next to the palace was decorated with the flower clumps, a carpet-bedding arrangements in front of the palace and large groups of rhododendrons and roses. The main decorative element of this part was a pavillon (Tea House) which was an original building from the 1780’s.
According to the garden art trends the border wall has been demolished and the garden was opened to the landscape around the property. The main vista from the garden included the view upon the Śnieżnik Massif known also as the “Fujiama of the Klodzko Valley”. The side interior of the garden included a collection of shrubs and perennials. There was a tiny rockery that was located on the southern wall of a barn. East from the garden there was a large orchard, vegetable garden with hotbeds and the gardener’s house combined with a large dryer for fruits and crops.
